The Austrian Business Council (ABC) is very pleased to present a unique cultural event exclusively for ABC members.
The eminent Curator of Exhibitions and Collections, Ms. Verena Formanek will guide us through an exquisite journey by giving us an inside look into the “Seeing Through Light: Selections from Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Collection” at the Manarat Al Saadiyat Museum, Abu Dhabi.
Verena Formanek joined 1989 the MAK in Vienna, where she was curator for communication, design and exhibitions, responsible for the permanent collection installation with international artists (Donald Judd, Jenny Holzer, and others).
The next stop in her career was the renowned Fondation Beyeler in Basel, Switzerland (a museum building by Renzo Piano), where she was in charge of artistic direction from 1996 to 2004.
She has cooperated internationally with the important museums around the world, such as the MoMA and the Guggenheim in New York, the Centre Pompidou and the Musée Picasso in Paris, the Tate Modern in London, and the KHM in Vienna.
She became Head of the Collections at the Museum of Design, Zürich till 2009.
Among research and teaching positions in Basel, Zürich and Linz she produced numerous publications.
She has also worked with the renowned designer Helmut Lang for over 20 years since 2010. Verena Formanek has been the Senior Manager of Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, former TDIC, for the Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Museum in Saadiyat cultural district, designed by architect Frank Gehry and scheduled to open in 2017.
